Since Al and I have been here, there are questions that seem to come up time and time again. It's great that people are so interested in this place, and we love to tell people about the place, as we are so happy (and lucky) to live here.

Our power is provided by two diesel gensets. They run 500 hours each and then get switched over, using approx 100 litres of diesel per day. They work hard, having to power the whole site which includes the roadhouse with a full commercial kitchen, 2 cold rooms, a walk in freezer and 3 double door fridges in the shop, not to mention all the appliances running at any given time. We also run a shower and toilet block, 10 motel rooms and 2 staff houses plus the shed and garage, a camp kitchen and even a swimming pool!

We could turn it off at night, but we don't, as lots of people like to get up and get going pretty early, so we give them the convenience of having 24 hour power. Also, it gets as high as 51 degrees here in summer, so those air cons need to be on all night long!! Surprisingly, the noise of the constantly running genset is not as loud as you would think, it is behind a dirt hill which really blocks a lot of the noise.

Our population here doubles for half of the year. There is just Alan and myself running the place during the off season (November to April) and then we have two roadhouse allrounders come to assist us for the on peak season.

People ask us if it's lonely? No, it never is, There is always something to do, and we never have felt isolated, even tho we are. They call this the most remote roadhouse in Australia. I'm not sure of the legiitimacy of that claim, but we sure are remote..the closest community is 200km's away at Cosmo Newberry. We see a lot of "lands workers" come and go, people who work in the lands permanently or for short spells, but there is always people passing through, always someone to pass the time of day with.

to be continued.....
